lost

Life is a journey. It has a beginning and an end. We all begin this journey in the same place, lost. Humanity is on a restless search to find the meaning of life. We all have basic questions that need to be answered in order to make sense of our world:

>Where did we come from?>> | ORIGIN |
>Why are we here? >> | MEANING and PURPOSE |
>How will everything end?>> | DESTINY |

As we seek to find answers to these questions, we need help - we need some source, some guide to help us find the WAY to the TRUTH. Without truth, we remain lost: lost to meaning, lost to our purpose, lost to ourselves, lost to one another.

The root problem that causes us to be lost is our spiritual deadness. We were all born into this world physically alive, but spiritually dead before God. This happened because of our first father - the first man - Adam. At the beginning of our Story, our first human father Adam choose to rebel against God and thus he brought sin, corruption and death into the human experience:

"...sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned..."
| Romans 5:12 NET |

We all begin life as sinners which is to say that we all begin in a state of rebellion - alienated from God and His LIFE of truth, goodness and beauty. This is what we call spiritual death - being separated from God the root and source of all LIFE. This makes us lost. We need help; we need someone who is above this terrible predicament to show us the the WAY to the One True God.

Jesus Christ said that He came to "seek and save those who are lost" (Luke 19:10). Jesus is the WAY because He is the only human being who truly reveals the nature and identity of the One True God. In the New Testament we read of Him:

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him – all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers – all things were created through him and for him.
He himself is before all things and all things are held together in him. He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things.
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in the Son and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross – through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
| Colossians 1:15-20 NET |

Jesus Christ existed with God the Father before the creation of the World as the Eternal Son. As the Eternal Son, he was the Agent of God's creation. In the passage above we see that all things were created by him, through Him and for Him. When you think about your origin, you need to know that you were created by Jesus Christ for Jesus Christ.

Jesus is also the only human who has entered into death and conquered it. Jesus was not born a descendant of Adam and therefore He was not born in the same predicament as we were. Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit of God and thus the Eternal Son took on human flesh. Jesus never rebelled against God (sin) in His time here on Earth and always did what was pleasing to His Father.

Everyone knows however that Jesus did die on the Cross. This death, however, had no power over Him. Death is the penalty for sin but Jesus had never sinned. Instead, on the Cross He took our place - He took the burden of our sins upon Himself to deal with the problem that none of us could have ever dealt with.

Jesus died for us to make peace between us and God. Since Jesus died for the sins of others, not His own, He could not be held in death's grip. In His resurrection from the dead, Jesus conquered our final enemy death. For all who trust in Jesus, death is not the end of the Story. Because Jesus is the One Unique Son of God, He is the only teacher who can show us the WAY back to the Eternal Father, our Creator.
